And in doing so, the legendary singer has influenced numerous performers' artistic journeys through collaborations or simply his musical presence. Today, on the first anniversary of the virtuoso's death, we speak with four prominent Tamil singers on what SPB means to them and their music.

To me, SPB sir was akin to a father figure. He adored my father and treated him as if he were his own brother. My first recording was for the film Friends, with Balu uncle. We collaborated on the song Vaanam Perusidhan. He advised me to take my time and study everything I could.
