When you walk out of Nelson's Doctor, the first thing that comes to mind is that it's unlike anything you've seen from a Sivakarthikeyan film before. Sivakarthikeyan embraces a grim role—of an army doctor who goes after a human trafficking gang—with limited dialogues, in a pleasant break from the colourful entertainers for which he is known. Despite its obvious narrative and turns, Nelson creates a wickedly nasty dark comedy that works. Because of the unique treatment, even the most banal moments are elevated.
